California is one of the best and most diverse states to see Indian baskets, collected from dozens of tribes living here. In Eureka, Calif. (shown in the photo) is Clarke Historical Museum’s Native American Wing featuring a world-recognized collection of Northwestern Native American baskets. You’ll find rare and historically significant basket collections at over a dozen museums throughout the state, but because the baskets are normally permanent collection artifacts, they may be archived and not on public display.
