The Japanese gardens in California are in true form as summer approaches. Last week we visited the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden on the campus of Cal State Long Beach and enjoyed seeing a big blue heron, colorful waterlilies, and dozens of huge koi fish swimming in the ponds. It was a surprisingly busy place for school being out of session now. Open to the public free of charge, you can wander through the garden, see a tea house and visit during special events such as an upcoming “Pruning of the Black Pines” on June 10 & 24, 2012.
