Some Renaissance fairs are bigger and more elaborate than others, but they all share one thing in common–the people. Those who attend are fun-loving adults and kids who really dig dressing up in costumes and playing games. From jousting to juggling, the characters are right out of Central Casting. Are you looking for a California Renaissance Festival? This year in California, we’ve seen about half a dozen Renaissance fairs simply not return or repeat. Some actually cite lack of financial support, and others attribute their demise to challenges in putting on such a large production. But the good news is that there are approx. 30 fantastic Renaissance fairs (or faires) and festivals spread throughout the year, up and down the state of California. Get busy planning your costume and strategy, or you can go in street clothes. But, you really owe it to yourself to attend one of these most entertaining events. And if there are kids in your picture, do take them. Children absolutely love the old-fashioned approach to living. It is so much more engaging for them than being plopped in front of TVs, computers and smart phones!
