There’s good news and bad news in the world of Sandcastle Festivals and Contests in California this year.
THE BAD NEWS: The biggest event in the U.S., the Imperial Beach U.S. Open of Sandcastles in San Diego County is permanently gone. As of today, May 3, city council members are meeting to see if they can’t put together some sort of event to carry the tradition, but the website domain name for the event is up for sale, and there’s nothing for sandcastle lovers to hang their hats on right now. This event normally takes place in July.
THE GOOD NEWS: There are Sandcastle Festivals galore in store for all you beach-loving dreamers and builders. Bring out the kid in you or bring a kid and let the child go wild building a sand creation at one of over a dozen contests and festival held in California in 2012. We’ve put together this guide (really it’s a list of events) for you to plan your summer and fall with.
