No Suds in these California Soap Box Derbies

They may call it a soap box but the racing vehicles in California’s derbies aren’t exactly made of boxes filled with soapy bubbles. At Temecula’s Wine Barrel Race there’s plenty of enthusiasm, and perhaps a few bubbly drinks to celebrate winning, however. It just goes to show that soap box derbies are not strictly for kids and in the Golden State they take new spins. If you’d like to get into the spirit, a national organization helps enthusiasts create these events. Check out Soap Box Derby (soapboxderby.org).

- DUNSMUIR: Dogwood Daze Soapbox Derby usually on Memorial Day weekend. We called the Chamber and nobody answered the phone so we could confirm this event.
