This weekend there are several fantastic opportunities to get to know California’s past.
At San Juan Bautista State Historic Park (left photo) an annual event, Early Days, takes place on June 15 and 16, 2013, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. both days. Hands on demonstrations, costumed actors, docent information and activities for all ages are included in the $3 admission. At Pio Pico State Historic Park (right photo) in Whittier, a similar event takes place on June 15, Noon – 5 p.m. Admission to this event is Free. See piopico.org
Columbia State Historic Park offers Saturday and Sunday free tours at 11 a.m. with costumed guides. Enjoy an hour-long walking tour of town led by a park staff member or docent. In Sacramento at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park there is a special event, Hands-on-History: War in California! on June 15, 2013, 10 a.m. -5 p.m. Cannon firing demonstrations: 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m.; Musket demonstrations periodically throughout the day.
