Catalina’s Golf Carts in Sheriff’s Log a Lot!

How much trouble can you get into driving a golf cart around Avalon and Catalina Island? Read the Sheriff’s Log to find out!

  • Deputies arrested two residents from Fullerton on suspicion of driving through the City of Avalon in a rental golf cart scramming residents and visitors by selling fake gold necklaces and rings as real gold jewelry. The suspects were self-proclaimed Romanian gypsies.
  • Deputies and first responders responded to a traffic collision where a golf cart overturned on Pebbly Beach Road. There were four occupants that suffered minor injuries.
  • Deputies responded to a traffic collision near Descanso Beach Club. It was a rolled over golf cart and there were only minor injuries. Alcohol or drugs did not play a part in the traffic collision.
  • Deputies arrested a man from Julian, California on suspicion of drunk driving, being involved in a traffic collision and rolling his golf cart, and injuring his passenger on Wrigley Road and Middle Terrace Road.
  • Deputies arrested a man from Avalon on suspicion of drunk driving after he was involved in a traffic collision and was found passed out next to his golf cart.
  • Deputies conducted patrol checks on Pebbly Beach Road regarding speeding vehicles. The speed limit is 20 mph.
  • Deputies and the fire department responded to a traffic collision in the 200 block of Clarissa Avenue. An 11-year-old ran into the street and was hit by a slow moving golf cart. There were no injuries.
  • Deputies arrested a juvenile on suspicion of driving (a golf cart) without a license on Chimes Tower Road. The juvenile was released to her parents.

Catalina Island welcomes over 1 million visitors each year via ferries, helicopter, private boats, planes and cruise ships. Golf carts are the primary means of transportation for most residents and are also used by visitors to get around and see the sights.
