AVALON, CALIF.– There’s always something happening on Catalina Island, and you never know what to expect. This weekend there’s an Easter Egg Hunt, Rubber Ducky Derby and many other events. But what’s coming up is really exciting!
Few people realize that Catalina Island gets greeted each year to the sight of the flying fish. It’s true. And it is so cool that they’ve created a festival to celebrate. You can enjoy the usual festival things, but one of the highlights is the night-time boat tour to see the fish fly. Each participant is given a high beam flashlight. The Catalina Island Flying Fish Festival takes place May 31 – June 3, 2012. Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce (catalinachamber.com) sponsors this event.
Note: If you miss the flying fish festival event, the flying fish will be seen around this Southern California island between May and September. Those stuck on the mainland can check out the coastal grunion runs in California this summer.
