There’s not a bad place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo this weekend, but there are some standout locations such as San Diego’s Old Town, Los Angeles Olvera Street, and San Francisco’s Dolores Park event.
Cinco de Mayo means 5th of May in Spanish. It pays tribute to the Mexican victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in on May 5, 1862. Though it is celebrated in the Puebla region of Mexico as an important milestone in the effort to fight off the occupying French, the festivities in California are actually more widespread. In our state Cinco de Mayo usually equates with drinking margaritas and Mexican beers, eating Mexican foods such as tacos & tamales, and watching folklorico dancers and mariachi bands. Just like “everyone’s Irish” on St. Patrick’s Day, everyone embraces Mexican culture on Cinco de Mayo. Here’s our list of places to celebrate the holiday!
