West Hollywood Russian Arts & Culture Festival takes place at Plummer Park on May 3, 2015. The free festival includes Russian crafts and jewelry, Puppet Theater on Wheels at 11 a.m; a Grand Opening Ceremony at 11:30 a.m.; the Annual Children’s Concert from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.; and an Annual Gala Concert from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

For those who don’t care about Cinco de Mayo parties and festivals this weekend there are other cultural options out there if you look around. Among those we have found:

  • POLYNESIAN: Foster City Polynesian Festival Saturday, May 2, 2015, 10am-5pm. See Hawaiian hula dancers, Samoan sivas, Tongan kailao and the rhythmic Tahitian and Cook Islands drum dances, plus food, arts & crafts booths and outrigger canoe rides. Admission is free. fostercity.org
  • NATIVE AMERICAN: UCLA Powwow May 2 & 3, 2015; San Juan Bautista Indian Arts Marketplace May 2 & 3; Sacramento’s California Indian Museum features Native American Basket Weaving Demonstration and Native American flute workshops for beginners, both on May 2.
  • RUSSIAN: West Hollywood Russian Festival May 3
  • EUROPEAN: Renaissance Festivals in Escondido, Visalia and Irwindale
  • INTERNATIONAL: Soka University International Festival May 2 in Aliso Viejo
