LOOMIS, CALIF.–Every year around this time the cowpokes ride into town, preparing for a showdown of a different sort. Words are their weapons, but actually, words, poetry and songs become their tools to appease and please the crowds who come to be entertained. Names such as the famous Baxter Black (not Black Bart) are pros of the cowboy poetry genre and all we can say is: Don’t knock it until you have tried it! The historic fruit shed the event is hosted in is often the recipient of the much-needed funds that are raised at the event. If you love all things cowboys such as campfires, ballads, plaid shirts, tooled belts, Western hats, boots, and even some yodeling, the annual Cowpoke Fall Gathering has your name written all over it!
