An annual cowboy poetry festival, Cowpoke Fall Gathering, begins today, November 8 and goes through November 11, 2012 in California’s Sierra foothill town of Loomis. For those who have never attended one of these cowboy shindigs, the event features the top cowboy poets and performers in the nation who supply ample doses of yodeling, guitars and songs, rhyming poems, classic Western wear, and a fantastic country setting. You can come by stagecoach (there’s usually a stagecoach riding around the main thoroughfare), horse, horseless buggy or your modern hybrid vehicle. The ambiance of this down-home event includes a unique setting. It is held in an historic fruit “shed”, once a fruit processing facility you’ll see on vintage crate labels. Townsfolk in Loomis and surrounding cities saved the structure from demolition and host the annual Cowbpoke Fall Gathering as a fundraiser to help defray costs involved in renovation and maintenance. Loomis (approx. 30 minutes by car) is located 25 miles northeast of Sacramento. See cowpokefallgathering.com
