Earth Day falls on April 22 each year but because Easter’s arrival was so close to that day (April 20, 2014), many municipalities and cities celebrated Earth Day a week early. And many will also celebrate a week later. Pictured is Lydia the Seal made of plastic trash collected from the ocean. Washed Ashore (washedashore.org) returns to California during its national exhibit. You’ll find activities and sculptures at San Francisco Zoo and San Diego SeaWorld in 2014.
