When Josh Hart refused the controversial Smart Meter for his home (Californians currently can get rid of Smart Meters and get the old analog meters back, but you’ll have to pay a service fee plus approx. $10 /mo,) Hart didn’t realize the sacrifices his family would endure and how long the battle would rage to defend personal rights. Not wanting Smart Meters for numerous reasons, Hart believes the public should not be made to pay an opt out fee to remove these high-tech reading devices that emit potentially dangerous signals similar to a cell phone. He has refused to pay the opt-out fee portion of his electric bill. As a result, Plumas-Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative Public Utility cut electricity service to his family’s apartment.
Hart describes his family’s experience as a hardship. “It’s been (now six) months since Plumas Sierra Rural Electric “Co-Operative” cut the electricity off to our (all-electric) home though we have paid every penny of electricity that we have used, said Hart. “They say it’s because we refused to pay the opt out fees they added to our bill. We say we never *opted in* and their disconnection is retribution for raising awareness in the community about the risks of their AMR smart meters.” Here is the full story…>
