Family Vacations at Shasta Lake, Houseboating Capital of the World

Published on: July 18, 2012

Shasta Lake, Calif.–The temperature outside normally hovers between 90 and 100 degrees in the summer months, June to September. It’s a dry heat and quite tolerable once you adjust. For visitors it signals houseboating time. Shasta Lake is the houseboating capital because of its warm weather, clear lakes and breath-taking scenery. Houseboat rentals are equipped for around 12 people up to 26 depending on size, making them ideal for family reunions and gatherings, or friend “families” as get-togethers during the summer. Many are known to make houseboating on Shasta Lake an annual tradition.

Unlike anywhere on Earth, Mt. Shasta rises majestically to the North and the Lassen Volcanic peaks to the East. Shasta Dam, the highest center spillway dam in the world, can be found at the Southwest corner of the lake. Shasta Caverns, a fascinating natural wonder that can only be reached from the lake, offers daily tours year round. Shasta Lake is located in Northern California about four hours drive Northeast of the Bay Area, three hours North of Sacramento, off Interstate 5. For rentals, see houseboats.com
