As California auto shows ended 2011 showcasing car manufacturers and designs of the latest models, there’s another type of car event where people go to see “old”. Concours car shows usually contain the upper crust of collector vehicles with antiques expected to be pristine models that include cars in luxury category during the era in which they were first introduced. Concours car shows vary in their categories and collections but strive to contain categories for the more rare and expensive vehicles from the early to mid 1900s.
Classic car owners in California typically enter a variety of shows throughout the state, so don’t be surprised if you see your favorite shiny, red ’34 Mercedes Benz showing up in Pebble Beach, La Jolla, Santa Barbara or even Surf City.
One of our favorite concours car shows is coming up! 8th Annual La Jolla Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, April 1st, 2012 at La Jolla Cove is becoming a solid concours that grew from a car show for and by ‘car guys’, according to Mike Dorvillier, Chair of the La Jolla Concours d’Elegance committee. It is but one example of how car shows have transformed from collections of old cars in contests, to premier collections showcased for the public to see and enjoy. LaJollaConcours.com
