If you’re going to propose to someone or sweep them off their feet, don’t make excuses about the spot you picked. Pick one of California’s LOVE beaches!

1. Lover’s Cove, Catalina Island:   On Catalina Island a girl stands above Pebbly Beach with its wonderful Lover’s Cove (left photo) where the water is clear and you’ll see a bed of kelp. Cove snorkeling is approx. 15 feet deep, offering stunning views of starfish, anemones and more. Lover’s Cove, from the Cabrillo Mole on past Abalone Point is a marine preserve not far from downtown Avalon.

2. Lover’s Point,  Pacific Grove:  Monterey Bay beaches (right photo) are for lovers, while this one features twisted Monterey Pines, crashing ocean surf and sunsets that are always different–and romantic. Book a vacation and stay a few days.

3. Heart’s Desire Beach, Tomales Bay: Located in Tomales Bay State Park, this beach is perfect for Bay Area and Central and Sacramento romantics who can get there in a few hours, max.

4. Lover’s Cove, Laguna Beach:  Though this beach is busy in the summer, February is the ideal time for couples to head down a set of stairs that leads to both Wood’s Cove and Lover’s Cove. Laguna Beach is for romantics.
