FESTIVALS SHOWCASE CALIFORNIA’S ROOTS:

With so many foods created in labs and filled with chemicals, nature is getting its revenge. Kids and adults are heavier now then ever before, there are more cases of diabetes, high blood pressure and food allergies, children are reaching puberty earlier than they are supposed to, and it’s going to get worse before it gets better.  We are facing a crisis in the food supply on several fronts–through the die off of pollinating bees for nut crops, through water shortages, and through radioactive water in the Pacific Ocean from Fukushima expected to reach our shores in a few months. Blue fin tuna already have high levels of radioactive materials in them, a warning sign for the food chain.  The good news is that California  is the largest producer of natural and organic foods. When surveyed, over half say that they would rather have natural and organic foods when given an option.  Can Californians re-connect with their roots and return to foods, clothing and products “from the garden”?

A popular 60s-70s band, Crosby, Stills & Nash made these lyrics a hit:

We are stardust, we are golden, we are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.

Well, then can I walk beside you? I have come to lose the smog.
And I feel like I’m a cog in something turning.
And maybe it’s the time of year, yes, and maybe it’s the time of man.
And I don’t know who I am but life is for learning.
We are stardust, we are golden, we are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.
