The Great Wine Festival at the Great Park in Irvine on May 2, 2015 features over 30 great wineries. Far from the fields of Napa, Sonoma, Lodi, Amador, Sacramento and the Central Coast where many of the great wines are produced, Southern Californians hunger for access to winery tasting. The nearest place is actually not that far. Temecula Valley is approx. 90 minutes from Irvine by car. What some may not realize is that the county known for oranges (Orange County) was a fertile wine growing region at one time. When Mission San Juan Capistrano was firmly established it was well known for its wine–likewise Anaheim, best known for Disney theme parks.
