Green is Clean

Why is it that over 80% of the population wears green on St. Patrick’s Day? Some say that fear of being pinched is a factor. The word green comes from the Old English word grene, which has the same root as the words grass and grow.  Green is composed of the colors yellow and blue. If you are painting, you learn that lesson pretty fast.

GREEN:

  • In California, Green is a community in Yolo County.
  • Nine California cities qualified for Silver status as a California Green Community as of winter 2013: Ventura, Claremont, Monrovia, Riverside, Simi Valley, Santa Clarita, Culver City, Santa Monica and Goleta.
  • In color analysis  the color green is the color of balance, harmony and growth, the color of spring, of renewal and rebirth.
  • As green relates to nature and the natural world, the word “green” can mean that a product or practice is ecologically preferable to the environment than non-green products and practices.
  • In terms of work and career, green can be used to describe an individual who lacks experience and knowledge.
  • In fruit green is not your optimum state if you’re a banana, unless you’re being picked and shipped a long distance.
  • In lettuce green is the ideal state of being.
  • If you say, “give me some greens,” you may be referring to food or money.
  • For over 50 years the Chicago River has been dyed green for St. Patrick’s Day. A mix containing 40 pounds of vegetable dye is used.
  • In politics, Green refers to the name of a political party, the Green Party.
  • In sports, you may think of a team when you hear the word green (as in Green Bay Packers.)
  • In car racing there’s a superstition dating back to the 1920s that green is bad luck.
