Picture of Heart’s Desire Beach in Tomales Bay State Park, California was taken this week by photographer Paula Beehner.
If you live in Death Valley where it will reach 107 degrees today, you can’t resist California Dreamin’, thinking about cooler places. The searing heat in the desert and Central Valley is much more tolerable when you give yourself summer breaks by heading to California’s coast. One of the most memorable escapes is about 40 miles north of San Francisco close to Inverness, Point Reyes Station and the Point Reyes National Seashore at Tomales State Beach.
Its beaches and east-facing slopes are especially attractive because they are protected from the prevailing winds by the high backbone of the Point Reyes Peninsula, providing mostly mild climate for relaxing, stress-free escapes. Heart’s Desire is for beach lovers (up there with Lover’s Point in Pacific Grove), but don’t miss Indian Beach, Pebble Beach, Shell Beach and other Marin County beaches.
