Disneyland’s “It’s a Small World” ride is a microcosm for the world, itself. First created as a display attraction by Walt Disney Enterprises for the UNICEF pavilion at the 1964 World’s Fair’s in New York, the popularity of a sculpture led to the creation of the boat ride launched in 1966 at Disneyland in Anaheim. Still running 47 years later to the same “Small World” tune that plays on an endless loop until the theme park’s closing time each day, the happy attraction for all ages now spans the globe. Small World operates in theme parks and time zones internationally so that there’s virtually no time of day when the tune isn’t being broadcast somewhere in the world. It’s amazing how a friendly song can unite people everywhere–it’s a small world, afterall!
