Located in Trinity County with its diverse landscapes in California’s largest national forest, things are a little different. Rather than lighting one of the hundreds of thousands of majestic trees that surround them, the residents of Lewiston light the bridge! They hold an unusual ceremony in which fireworks on the Lewiston Bridge launch the holiday festivities. Santa comes onto the bridge after the fireworks show, then returns to the Dance Hall to hear wishes from local kids. People actually come from near and far to see this celebration because it is so unusual. Located between Weaverville and Redding just of Highway 299, Lewiston’s annual holiday bridge celebration is one of California’s “off the beaten path” traditions.
