Monterey County on the Silver Screen — Who needs Ireland or Scotland when you can have Monterey County? On St. Patrick’s Day 2012, it’s going to cost you a lot of green to visit Ireland. After you’ve traveled thousands of miles and spent thousands of dollars to see the tourist destination, you discover your neighbor went to Monterey County and took pictures of scenes even prettier than what you saw! Bummer.
Monterey County and its familiar cities such as Monterey, Carmel, Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove, is a popular destination for Californians this spring, and believe it or not, travelers actually come from Ireland to see the beauty they’ve heard about on California’s Central Coast!
This land of lush greens, blue skies and bluer oceansĀ is a visual feast for visitors and filmmakers, too. Beginning in 1897 with two of the earliest films ever made, the county has provided filming sights for hundreds of movies and shows, and was actually used as a setting for Ireland in “Dr. Dolittle”.
Monterey County in Movies:
There are many great movies and film locations in Monterey County but for us average travelers, it’s just a great place to visit, relax, unwind and enjoy the countryside. When you go, you’ll see why even the Irish feel at home and fall in love with this breath-taking destination.
