It’s kind of amazing that Marina del Rey is the only public marina serving Angelenos in an expansive 50-mile stretch along the mainland coast between Redondo Beach and Oxnard/Ventura County. In addition to its coveted ocean location, numerous apartments overlooking the harbor and bay, and close proximity to LAX and downtown Los Angeles, it’s the go-to place for harbor cruises, sportfishing excursions, and the annual Holiday Boat Parade with Fireworks.

Marina del Rey had its grand opening in 1965 (and a major renovation several years ago,) continuing its legacy as the world’s largest man-made small craft harbor. If you’re visiting Los Angeles, is it worth going to Marina del Rey? It’s a must if you’re looking to experience a dinner cruise. Departing Fisherman’s Village (shown in photos above,) guests on Hornblower Cruises can spend a weekend afternoon with brunch or evening dining with the Pacific sunset as your backdrop while you enjoy an easy glide around the harbor. Fisherman’s Village features several restaurants and tourist shops, plus free concerts some weekends. The surrounding hotels, beaches, ocean view dining and shopping all make Marina del Rey an interesting place to drop by or spend the night.
