Mariposa is the Spanish word for butterfly. If you don’t know the way to Mariposa, California, just look for the butterflies–and the food–and the fire. This weekend at Mariposa Butterfly Festival, an annual celebration honoring the city’s namesake, there’s a Taste of Mariposa launch party on Friday night, followed by Saturday’s big butterfly extravaganza with a parade and a really hot fire show produced by Manafire on Saturday night. Sunday is the mellow finale with free burrito breakfast and more entertainment such as butterfly releases. The mountain town is one of the gateway’s to Yosemite National Park, approx. one hour distance by car. Here are some other butterfly attractions to see throughout the state.
