Memorial Day Times Three: Grubstake, Mules and Fiesta Days
Memorial Day isn’t a stand alone event. In California there are thousands of festivals and parades that are timed for maximum joy thanks to the three day holiday this week. Three special events you might saddle up to include Vacaville Fiesta Days, Yucca Valley Grubstake Days and Bishop Mule Days. At Vacaville Fiesta Days the shops decorate their storefronts in Western themes. At Yucca Valley’s Grubstake Days there’s a beard contest, parade, and all sorts of hootin’ and hollerin’. And in the Mule Capital of the World, the annual Mule Days in Bishop includes plenty of showmanship, including a concert with top Country Western acts. Where else can you see Speed Shoeing competitions and exciting acts in the arena? Sure, you could be at the beach watching bikini-clad girls and smelling their banana suntan oil– but there’s nothing quite as distinctive as the smell of leather, horses & hay, and seeing real girls (cowgirls) take on the world.
