American Graffiti returns to Modesto to celebrate the city’s heritage one sneaker-wearing, blue jean-clad teen witnessed and made into a movie earning over $200 million. Hometown hero George Lucas received many rejections before Universal Pictures financed his film starring Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Harrison Ford, Charles Martin Smith, Cindy Williams, Candy Clark, Mackenzie Phillips, Paul Le Mat, and Wolfman Jack. Set in Modesto in 1962, it tells the story of a group of teenagers and their adventures over a single evening.

On Friday night the Car Parade classic is followed by Modesto Elvis Tribute Extravaganza complete with poodle skirts and a sock hop at 10th Street Plaza — free! Saturday and Sunday brings on the festival car show (fee) with a special concert on Saturday night featuring the Kingsmen known for the song, Louie, Louie | The Surfaris – Wipe Out, Surfer Joe | and The Tokens – The Lion Sleeps Tonight.
