First mouse was a wooden shell covering two metal wheels
Handsome computer mouse inventor Doug Engelbart died this week at age 88. He wasn’t poor as a church mouse, but his wooden invention revolutionizing the way people interact with their intelligent machines didn’t make him rich. He was ahead of his time and saw the patent run out in 1987 before the device became widely used. The Bay Area resident spent most of his life inventing and working with computer technology–he held the first video teleconference, explaining his theory of text-based links, which would form the architecture of the internet. He also worked on early incarnations of email, word processing and helped develop ARPANet, the government research network that led to the internet.
