Lemonade Day is May 4, 2014. A national organization (LemonadeDay.org) encourages kids to sign up and promote the effort to sell lemonade in their cities around the nation, though many California cities have actually shut kids’ booths down for not having a license to sell. The goal of the lemonade sales effort is to teach kids about entrepreneurship in a project that’s relatively easy to launch with the help of parents. Two cities in California are participating in Lemonade Day 2014:
I had a lemonade stand when I was a kid. Yes, I discovered that the cost of a finely chipped ice and ingredients meant that I didn’t make a profit. I closed my stand after learning that valuable lesson. Of course I wasn’t charging $3.50-$5 cup, the price you’ll generally pay at fairs today. Now as my lemon tree in the yard drips with ripe lemons that I give away and my family continues to bring home jars of Santa Cruz Organic Lemonade, I began to ask myself if I should look up the lemonade recipe and make it once again. (California is one of the easiest places to grow lemons!)
