Once known as the “Peach Capital of the World,” Hughson didn’t cling to its clingstones enough to maintain world title. While you’ll still see peach trees & orchards around the small city, almonds have really taken over. In fact, there’s enough almond production in Hughson to practically give it the title of “Almond Capital of the World.”  One thing is clear– Hughson is the heart of farm country in the Central Valley. Fun-loving Hughsonites like to celebrate what they do best (grow) with a Harvest Festival in September. The 3rd annual event sponsored by the Hughson Chamber of Commerce ( hughsonchamber.com) is happening September 21-22, 2013.

Hughson got its name from rancher Hiram Hughson who arrived in 1882 and began growing grain on 1,000 acres he purchased. He bought more land but eventually sold it off and in so doing, helped the town of Hughson become a reality in 1907.
