Most of us are taught that it is wrong to lie. For those who take it to heart, it’s a little hard to spin a good yarn when you’re not used to telling tall tales. Peg Leg Smith Liars Contest on April 5, 2014 (always the first Saturday in April) isn’t just about fibbing…it’s about making it sound interesting. This annual event out in the Anza Borrego desert is based on mountain man Thomas L. Smith, better known as ‘Peg Leg’ Smith who was a prospector and spinner of amazing, unbelievable yarns till he died in 1866.
