Earl Scruggs, recognized as one of the best bluegrass banjo players ever to live, passed away last week (March 28, 2012). He occasionally performed in concerts in California and was known for his guest appearances on The Beverly Hillbillies. Shown in the photo (right) is Earl Scruggs getting his Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Feb. 13, 2003, with Jethro and Ellie Mae, Max Baer Jr. and Donna Douglas, of The Beverly Hillbillies.
California bluegrass pickers and strummers all know of Scruggs, and a few will lament his passing at the upcoming Central California Bluegrass Association (CBA) RV Rally & Campout on April 14, 2012 at Stanislaus County Fairgrounds. Campouts are a mainstay of the CBA. Three times each year, Spring, Mid-Summer, and Fall members come together for weekend jamming and just plain fun. Locations for the event vary each year but there’re always great camp sites and RV hook-ups. Whether you’re a picker or a listener you’ll love it. Contact Info: (916) 591-0719 or (916) 989-0993.
Other banjo events upcoming include the Victorville Huck Finn Jubilee June 15-17, 2012. Last year Roy Clark (Hee Haw), performed at the Huck Finn Jubilee, an event filled with pickin’ and grinnin’.
