The beauty of plein air painting, a California tradition in Laguna Beach dating back to the early 1900s, is that the already gorgeous scenery transforms into something totally different yet still very magical when seen through the eyes of a creative talents who come from around the country to paint. The 14th Annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational held in Laguna Beach began on Sunday, October 14 and goes through October 21, 2012. Artists can be seen around the city painting images of canyons, palm trees, the Pacific Ocean, and a variety of settings that inspired artists to move to Laguna at the turn of the 20th century.
If you can’t turn this event into an autumn vacation, definitely plan an art trip to Laguna Beach once in your life. In addition to the summer art festivals and Pageant of the Masters, there’s a winter Sawdust Festival for Christmas shopping, an artwalk held each month, and galleries galore. You could take a weekend just to see all of them.
