With January 1 just around the bend and Californians making their New Year’s Resolution plans, it’s little comfort to know that California Restaurant Month begins on Jan.1! What that means is that over 40 cities and destinations have partnered with their local restaurants to present offers designed to lure you in. Among the more popular events is Pasadena’s Cheeseburger Week taking place Jan.6-11, 2019. According to Pasadena burger experts, the first commercial cheeseburgers were sold by Lionel Sternberger at the Rite Spot in Pasadena in 1924.
According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, an eye-popping 70% of American adults are overweight — and more than 40% of them are obese! It seems like the annual New Year’s Resolution to lose weight isn’t working out too well, although 50% of us made an effort to lose weight in the past year. The largest number of Americans trying to lose weight are obese.
After the holiday chocolates, cookies, eggnogs, dinners and drinks are behind us, the New Year brings an annual food campaign from the state tourism branch encouraging Californians to dine out at local restaurants.
The top two methods for trying to lose weight are exercise and eating less, both being employed by 62.9% of those making a conscious effort to shed pounds. The majority of those trying to lose use more than one method in their weight-loss plan.
While California Restaurant Month in January seems like one more temptation at a time when people want to change what they’re doing to improve their health, it turns out that 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail by February, anyway.
