When somebody tells you to “duck” at a duck festival, you better listen! There’s a good chance you’re standing under the free-fall of thousands of bright yellow or orange rubber ducks that will have you quacking when you get whacked by them. Stand back and watch the excitement as the critters go bobbing and floating to shore, winner takes all in the energy-charged race.
There’s something so primal and pure about the yellow, floating rubber duck. As a child it’s a wonderful play toy in a bath or pool. As we grow up, it continues to symbolize the bright, buoyancy of our youth–our willingness to explore, bounce back, and go with the flow. Not everyone bounces back quite so easily or fast, however. Maybe they forgot to “duck”, or perhaps they’re suffering an illness and they need help. Rubber ducks are popular fundraisers for special causes, especially causes helping kids. There are a whole bunch of duck festivals popping up in California…put on your rubber boots and raincoat and get ready to SPLASH!
