It has always been one GIANT party, say event organizers, who for nearly 40 years (since 1974) have produced Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. Each Memorial Day Weekend the event kicks of with a Parade, Beads and music. The weekend is filled with dancing in the streets in Sacramento, and is the only event to take over the town is such a big way for four days!
So why did they have to go and change its name? The event people say it’s not ALL jazz –but now includes other popular forms of American music such as blues, rock ‘n’ roll, Western swing, rhythm & blues, zydeco, Latin, and bluegrass. Sacramento Music Festival’s 2012 edition will, as always, be primarily staged in Old Sacramento. Over 400 performances in 20+ venues by over 70 bands showcase talents from around the nation (and globe) and for those attending, it’s non-stop entertainment. Zydeco fans will be glad to know that Lisa Haley & the Zydekats band, and Tom Rigney & Flambeau both are appearing.
An all events pass is around $120 for Friday, May 25 through Monday, May 28, 2012. Single day passes range from around $22 – 45, seniors and kids are cheaper. See sacmusicfest.com for schedules, tickets, and featured artists.
