Wanna’ go on photo safari? Southern California’s San Diego Zoo (sandiegozoo.org) offers plenty of picture taking opportunities. Shown is a polar bear up close and personal at San Diego Zoo. Only a piece of high-tech glass separates you from the lifestyles of nature’s magnificent rulers of the northern tundra at Polar Bear Plunge.
Other bears you can see and take pictures of include the famous Giant Pandas (a national treasure in China,) outback Koalas known as the superstars of the San Diego Zoo (123 joeys birthed here,) and Bornean sun bears, the smallest bears on Earth!
Bears from around the globe are a small sampling of what you can photograph at San Diego Zoo. Wander at your leisure, take a tour, or sign up for the adult sleepover offered on September 15, 2012. And if you’re visiting San Diego but don’t have much time, you can actually do a condensed visit through the zoo in just an hour or two, grabbing great photos along the way.
In addition to San Diego Zoo photo “ops”, you can take a photo safari at San Diego Zoo Safari Park near Escondido:
Though some prefer traveling to exotic places to see animals in their natural spaces, the impacts of tourism on rare and endangered species make such adventures a little less palatable for those who are concerned about the survival and well being of these animals. Zoos offer the adventure of seeing beautiful, rare and fascinating, furry creatures from other worlds while your attendance and donations support animal preservation. In Northen California be sure to check out Safari West for great picture-taking “in the wilds”.
