Beckwourth, Calif. — Boasting the only “on the farm” farmers’ market in California, Sierra Valley Farms (sierravalleyfarms.com) is open to the public Fridays 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., May 30 – September 19, 2014. This 65-acre certified organic farm and native plant nursery in the majestic Sierra Valley 5,000 feet above sea level, invites you to visit and enjoy the rural setting. There are 15-25 vendors for Friday markets at this one-of-a-kind venue. Finding Beckwourth: Highway 70 traverses Beckwourth Pass (5,221 feet), the lowest crossing in the Sierra Nevada, discovered in 1851 by James Beckwourth. It is located near the northeast corner of California where the Sierra and the Cascade mountains meet in Plumas County. Approximately 70% of the county contains national forests.
