Thousands have filled the beach this weekend to participate in the 52nd International Surf Festival in Manhattan Beach. Participants ages 8 to 80+ participate in three signature events–Judge Taplin Lifeguard Medley Relay, the Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim, and the Charley Saikley 6-Man Volleyball Tournament. The family-fun event promotes the four South Bay beach cities, the nation’s biggest and world’s best lifeguard service, and physical fitness for thousands of participants. Surfing contests, bodysurfing, beach run, sand soccer, paddleboard race, dory race, and youth events bring together the Chambers of Commerce and Cities of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, Los Angeles County Fire Department and Department of Beaches and Harbors. The 2013 Surf Festival began on July 31 and ends August 4, 2013. See surffestival.org
