Sternwheeler Race on Lake Tahoe Launches Labor Day Weekend
On Saturday, August 31, 2013, Tahoe Queen at Ski Run and the M.S. Dixie II at Zephyr Cove take part in The 21st Annual Great Lake Tahoe Sternwheeler Race. It pits South Shore’s two Mississippi paddlewheelers in a four-mile race along the shoreline to determine the coveted Tahoe Cup and lake supremacy. The Tahoe Queen and M.S. Dixie sell tickets for the race / ride, and begin boarding at 10 a.m. Passengers can join the party aboard either boat for a unique Tahoe experience with memories, brunch and drink specials. The weekend culminates in the Labor Day Weekend Fireworks Extravaganza on September 1, 2013, 8:30 p.m. at Tahoe South. This pyrotechnic exhibition explodes over Lake Tahoe after dusk and features a variety of patterns, shapes and designs. The show features a simultaneous music broadcast that can be heard on local stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL – AM 1490. The fireworks are visible from all over town. What a way to end summer!
