Redding, Calif. — California’s most unique walk bridge created an international buzz when it was unveiled on July 4, 2004. Designed by a famed Swiss architect, the elegant Sundial Bridge spanning the Sacramento River is made of 4,342 feet of steel cable suspended from one single, glistening white, 217-foot-high pylon that resembles an egret in flight. Turning 10 in 2014, events to “Celebrate 10” include docent-led Sundial Bridge tours, a sidewalk chalk art contest, fly fishing demonstrations, flash mob dance performances, and more. Turtle Bay will also unveil new Sundial Bridge exhibits in the museum and at Sundial Bridge Plaza.
