Super Bowl Weekend is all about sports, action, food, fun, entertainment and the runs! There are many women (and men) who won’t get into the hoopla over the big football game, Super Bowl XLVI played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Sunday, February 5, 2012. It’s deja vu as the New England Patriots and New York Giants meet for the NFL title and a place in history, and tickets are still available with prices ranging from $2613 – 2800 (superbowl.com).
But many Californians will stay at home after the San Francisco 49’ers lost their spot in this momentous game. Each year on Super Bowl weekend, there are many marathons, races and runs that take place in California, and some actually travel to California to participate in these events rather than go to the Super Bowl!
Entertainment at California’s races is lively. In Redondo Beach they have the parents/kids buggy run where everyone is encouraged to dress in costume. It’s hilarious. In Davis the annual Stampede brings out a lively, zany crowd, as well. And at the Death Valley Borax Marathon, Sacramento’s Jed Smith Ultra Classic 50M – 50K Run, or Huntington Beach’s Surf City Marathon, the challenges are gargantuan and entertainment includes fiddlers, drummers and surf bands such as the Surftones. Even though California lost its chance to have the next Super Bowl heroes winning team, they’re not feeling down in 2012. The citizens and visitors to our Golden State say, “Bring it on!”
