Disneyland is pure fantasy–and even nostalgia. If you’re a fan of the 1955 Mad Tea Party teacup ride, you may also like the Enchanted Tiki Room. Opened in 1963, The Enchanted Tiki Room is old-fashioned, a little funky by today’s standards, and yet, its simplicity is very appealing. Perhaps that is why it’s still operating. Guests enter a courtyard to wait for admission to the Enchanted Tiki Room, but not before stopping by the Dole kiosk where glasses of Dole pineapple juice are sold (around $3.50) and frosty, Dole whip soft-serve is available. While waiting, a story about Polynesian gods unfolds from the wall ornaments and masks. There’s Rongo, God of Agriculture; Tangaroa-Ru, Goddess of the East Wind; Koro, the Midnight Dancer; and Maui in a four minute pre-show.
Maui Who Roped the Playful Sun
Through his special mystic powers
He made the sun keep regular hours
Maui tells us – Time to go.
Time for wondrous Tiki Show.
Once seated in the theater in the round where guests wait in a slightly darkened room, flowers unfold and artificial macaw birds on perches drop from the ceiling appearing to sing (via Audio-Animatronics technology.) Guests are invited by the birds to chime in. The attraction includes: 55 singing birds, 54 singing orchids, 24 singing masks and 12 tiki drummers.
