A national non-profit organization, Tourism Cares, has selected historic Old Sacramento as its fall project and is seeking volunteers to come to Sacramento on September 27, 2012 to “paint the town”. Volunteers greeted by an enthusiastic, appreciative and welcoming Sacramento tourism industry will paint, landscape and rebuild areas in Old Sacramento, a National Historic Landmark District and State Historic Park located along the Sacramento River. Sacramento is Califonia’s Capitol and must-see for anyone studying California politics and history. As a tourist destination, its walkable neighborhoods and variety of museums offer travelers a unique vacation filled with plenty of charm.
Budget cuts, understaffing and time constraints stifle the City of Sacramento’s simple but deferred maintenance of its historic district, which is why hundreds of volunteers who care are invited to sign up and attend the event. Companies and individuals can participate in attendance or sponsorship. Merchandise, monetary and in-kind sponsorships are available. For more information, visit TourismCares.org/volunteer.
Note: Tourism Cares previously selected Angel Island in San Francisco as one of its volunteer projects, and has supplied grants to state parks and historic missions in California in Northern and Southern California.
