“Water is sensuous and experiential. It yields a natural inclination and fascination in the perceiver to touch and feel. Design in concert with invention explores these realms through form, material, color and light.” –Claire Kahn, WET Executive Designer
Each Christmas the Port of Los Angeles Fanfare Fountains that are similar to those at Bellagio in Las Vegas (and created by the same company, WET,) dance to holiday music in concert with a water & light show. Throughout the year you can see the dancing water fountains featuring slightly different orchestration, but with the same excitement. When Fanfare opened in San Pedro in 2008 it helped brand the iconic Gateway Plaza, part of the Port of Los Angeles. For a fun holiday experience you can ride the replica Red Car train which stops at Fanfare. The train ride which is subsidized by the Port is costs around $1. This weekend the colorful Christmas Boat Parade and performances by San Pedro Ballet and San Pedro Glee Club launch the month-long Holidays by the Sea.
