Photo: If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear a cherry blossom in your hair. Spring is in the air at the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival (nccbf.org) in San Francisco’s Japantown, taking place Sunday April 14-15 and April 21-22, 2012.
From the roar of the engines starting up in the biggest street racing event in California at Long Beach Grand Prix, to the make-believe world of Queens and Kings at Irwindale’s Renaissance Faire, good times are straight ahead and things are heating up. This weekend it’s hot enough at Chili Cook-offs in Red Bluff or Palm Springs, tasty in Julian’s Taste Of, and a green scene at a variety of Earth Day celebrations. It’s the season of events when planners dust off their decorations, costumes and entry forms, inviting the public to attend, participate and sell. These grass-roots community involved events are drivers of the economy, believe it or not. Bottom line, however, they’re just plain fun!
