This week several of the biggest Oktoberfest events launch their month+ season of revelry, unveiling a new crop of shot girls. Left to right are Oktoberfest maidens in dirndls from Alpine Village Oktoberfest in Torrance, Old World Village in Huntington Beach – (2) middle pictures, and Carmel Oktoberfest.
The largest Oktoberfest festivals take place in Torrance, Huntington Beach, Big Bear Lake and Anaheim, where visitors can celebrate nearly two months of German culture through music, dance, food and drinks. The shot girls, however, come straight from California. In Huntington Beach each year there are shot girl tryouts with two days of beauty contests and a panel of judges. The pay-off can mean big tips for the winners, as their new job usually involves selling liquor that comes in little test-tube vials for around $6 a pop. Jagermeister, Apple Vodka and other sweet liqueurs are quite popular on Friday and Saturday nights when singles are on the prowl, out to have a good time.
