Question: What weighs approx. 250 tons, has more than 1.5 million blossoms, is more than one acre in size and is named by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest blossoming plant in the world?
Answer: Sierra Madre’s world famous Wistaria Plant! This lavender blossoming giant which contains 40 blossoms per sq. foot and experiences a growth rate around 24-26″ in one-to-two days sits at a private residence and is only available for viewing on a limited basis each year during the Wistaria Festival, usually in March.
What: Sierra Madre Wistaria Festival takes place on Sunday, March 25, 2012 with Vine viewing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Art & Garden Faire which includes vendor booths, crafts and entertainment goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Before you go: Nearly as big deal about seeing the plant as its size is the parking. You are advised to buy a bus shuttle ticket sold by the Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce.
