Known for its outrageous costumes and really big hats, Beach Blanket Babylon is the longest running musical revue in theatre history. The San Francisco stage production and institution has entertained kings, queens, presidents, tourists and San Francisco residents since 1974. Amazingly, the show continues to sell out like it did when first launched. Over 12,000 performances later, it is going strong, proving that people want to laugh!

Beach Blanket Babylon was created as a zany theatrical spoof with a simple plot (Snow White searches for Prince Charming) and utilizes the ample material of current affairs & politics to keep the show fresh & contemporary, allowing the audience to chuckle and feel as if they are participants in an evening's journey.

Created by Steve Silver in 1974, the college student at San Jose State University who was working on his Fine Arts Master's Degree, loved entertainment and especially the whimsical and absurd. Silver's hit kept him busy throughout his life as he constantly sought new costumes, show themes and a reliable staple of actors to fit the bill for this very unusual production. He passed away in 1995 and wasn't much over 50 years old when he died, but he did have time to hand-select and train his wife, Jo Schuman Silver, to operate Beach Blanket Babylon. Left in her capable hands, the former ad agency marketer has managed and produced it for 15 years, continuing with the successful formula that has assured sell-out crowds during its 36 year run. Held at North Beach's Club Fugazi on Wednesday-Sunday each week, the seating is designed for maximum viewing and audience intimacy, while also providing affordable seats as an option.

There are many things to see and do when visiting San Francisco, but loyal fans of Beach Blanket Babylon say it is right up there with Coit Tower, Golden Gate Bridge and World Series champions San Francisco Giants, who have won the most games of any team in the history of American baseball!
